Beginning of your winter tour activity in Mongolia

Arrive in Ulgii and at the same day drive to Shiveet mountain and stay with Tuvan family. This is the best place to start winter tour in Mongolia. On that first day you will meet local nomads and experience nomadic winter lifestyle.

Hike or ride on Shiveet mountain

Hike or do horse riding on Shiveet mountain. During your hiking on the mountain you will watch some wildlife and see some historical prints. Shiveet mountain is famous mountain in western Mongolian Altai Tavan Bogd national park that keeps secret of the past and home for 400 wild Ibexes that stay on that. You will meet large complex of Petroglyphs from ancient Turkic age and enjoy beautiful views of Altai Mountain range.

Visiting Eagle Hunter's family

You will leave Tuvan nomads and start driving back to another part of Altai Tavan Bogd national park where live different ethnic group of Mongolia. They are Kazakh nomads. Kazakh nomads used to train eagles and hunt with them to catch small wild animals. You will meet Eagle hunter's family and learn some history about eagle training. Eagle hunting and eagle training is most winter activity in Mongolia.

Become a witness of Real Eagle hunting

You will ride a horse with local nomads and go riding on Altai mountains. You will follow the Eagle hunter and see how he uses his Golden Eagle to catch small animals and how to train the Eagle in right way.

Leave Eagle hunter's family and drive back to Ulgii

Drive back to Ulgii town. Your driver will take you to your Hotel or Guesthouse room where you will have hot shower after long and wild trip, and will have an wifi.

Mongolia has large enough selection of vegetables so you can travel in Mongolia with now worries and with no problems. Many Mongolian touristic destinations and attractions are located not in the town so before you travel out of the town or city make sure that you will have enough food with you that will last until you are back in nearest town. If you are travelling with local tour agency or with local tour company make sure that you did let them know before you arrive or meet them so they can start managing this for you before your arrival.

In Mongolia has the only international airport in Ulaanbaatar city which is the capital of Mongolia. There are no other places with international airports. So after you arrive in Ulaanbaatar you will need to take flight to other provinces or destinations. So there are two other domestic airlines that you can catch to get to Ulgii. One is Hunnu Air ( and another one is Aero Mongolia (

In summer in western Mongolia is very hot during the day time. Some days might be windy and some days rainy. Average temperature is between +18 to +25 while you are traveling in low areas around the towns. But if you will go traveling on the mountain in Altai Tavan Bogd national part it is more colder there. Weather changes often as it can stay warm and sunny and after few hours there can be windy, rainy and start even snow in some areas and after few hours there can be sunny and warm again. So be prepared for any weather conditions while you are traveling in western Mongolian national park. Inside the national park is between +20 and +10 during the daytime. And during the night time it is between +14 and +7. Weather condition is also different in those areas depending on its altitudes.

Western Mongolian “Altai Tavan Bogd” national park is highest point of all Mongolia. Elevation of lowest areas around 1,710 m and highest is around 4,374 m. “Tavan Bogd Mountain” are 5 highest peaks of Mongolia. Khuiten peak is highest point of Mongolia 4,374 m, Nairamdal peak 4,180 m, Burged peak 4,068, Malchin peak 4,050 and Olgii peak 4,050. Malchin peak is easy accessible point where you can hike without any special equipment. Easy to get on its top and it has a beautiful views to Russian mountains and Altai mountain range.

Normally in the camping tours in western Mongolia no shower facilities are available. If you want it during your tour and want to include you can discuss it with tour agency and can do extra payment and include it in your tour. So they can carry small standing special tent for that and you can take shower during your tour. You can heat water for shower on gas-stove.

There are toilets that look like camping toilets but normally people prepare go to the nature around. Again as a camping shower by discussing with travel agency you can take portable camping toilet for the tour if you think it is required for you.

There are no problems with wifi while you are in the city or in the towns. When you are travelling out of the town there are no wifi and in most places even don’t have a mobile reception as well. So before you go on tour make sure that you have sent all your important e-mails and have notified all people that you needed.
